Ivan Ivarson (1900–1939), born July 20, 1900 on Stampgatan in Gothenburg, died June 26, 1939 at the Courbevoie hospital in Paris, was an artist who belonged to the Gothenburg colorists artist group. He starts at Valand's painting school in Gothenburg in 1922, under Tor Bjurström. Ivarson married in Paris, in February 1928, the sculptor Märta Taube, sister of Evert Taube & Karin Parrow, and together they had a son Per in August of the same year. In the first years of the 1930s, Ivan Ivarson spends the summers on Stenungsön in Bohuslän, which would become an important place for their circle of artists. There he would live next door to fellow painter Ragnar Sandberg. It is not only the color that Ivarson develops during this time. Even the brushstroke is in harmony with the colouring, broadly and quickly he lets the color flow over the canvas, intuitively but precisely. His art consisted of a sensitivity that was part of Ivarson's artistry. "To paint is to write poems in color - if the color does not play the first role, it can certainly become art - but not painting."
