Lennart Jirlow (1936 – 2020) was one of our most valued naivists. His colorful works created poetic depictions of everyday environments including restaurants, blooming gardens and stage settings. Jirlow received his education at Konstfack in Stockholm and the Art Academy in Florence, Accademia di Belle Arti. After his studies, he was active in Stockholm and France and took great inspiration and influence from the environments of Paris and Provence. The sun of Southern Europe shines through the works and the pleasantly round figures are smiling contentedly, an affirmation of life that spreads joy to the viewer. Lennart Jirlow was also active as a set designer for productions at, among others, the Dramaten and the Royal Opera.
