Madeleine Pyk was born in 1934 in Stockholm. At a young age, she lived at Mosebacke Torg on the southern heights with a view of the Katarina elevator, a motif that recurs in her creations. She has a solid background with studies at Konstfack 1951-55 and the Academy of Arts 1963-67. Pyk's naive style is idiosyncratic and colorful. She works based on her longing for the idyllic with a dreamlike circle of motifs that includes landscapes, still lifes and portraits full of humour, people and animals. Recurring attributes are her patented depictions of tigers and cats as well as Stockholm environments in various guises. Madeleine Pyk is represented in a number of different institutions, with the Moderna Museet, Norrköping Art Museum and the City of Stockholm's collections as examples. Madeleine Pyk is today one of Sweden's most loved and highly respected artists.
