Uno Vallman (1913-2004) was born in Dalarna in poor conditions. From 1936 he began to study art. First at Otte Sköld's painting school and in 1939 he was admitted to the art school in Stockholm. Vallman's first noticed appearance took place in 1945 at Färg och Form in Stockholm, which together with a solo exhibition at the Konstgalleriet in Gothenburg in 1946 became his breakthrough. Uno Vallman has his own expression and language in his painting. In the 1960s, Vallman was sometimes called the "Nordic Picasso" by French art critics, when he had exhibitions in Paris. Vallman had his own innovative style that is very difficult to copy, also called Vallmanism by reviewers in France. Recurring motifs in Vallman's paintings are roosters, flower still lifes and landscapes. He has also depicted famous Stockholm environments. His greatest work of art is undoubtedly the many monumental paintings in churches, schools and administrative buildings.
