Chagall, Marc

Marc Chagall (1887–1985) was an artist and graphic artist from Belarus. He studied with the artist Yehuda Pen in 1906 and in 1907 he moved to Saint Petersburg to study at the Imperial Art Association School. In Saint Petersburg, Chagall experienced modernism for the first time, which later brought him to Paris. There he was influenced by the large number of modern artists such as Robert Delaunay and Roger La Fresnaye. Marc Chagall is today regarded as one of the protagonists of modern art, with a visual language taken from expressionism, cubism and futurism. In addition, he reshapes reality in his works which speak for an early surrealism. Today, Marc Chagall is one of the world's most famous artists and his works provide a great breadth of the emotional spectrum.
