AN INVITATION TO WONDER

CATCHING THE NORDIC LIGHT

Christian Koivumaa is a master of watercolor. With a steady hand, he manages to depict something very elusive - whether it's the play of shadows among the city's warming streets, the mysterious northern lights above the tops of the spruce forests or the breathtaking expanses of the northern mountain ranges. If you look closer, you will find both outstanding details and an incomparable and mysterious depth, filled with a longing and the memories that we all carry within us, which Koivumaa has made an art to capture on the sheets. Volatile, abstract and rock-solid.

DISTINCT CONTOURS & CHANGING LIGHT

BALANCES TIME & THE ETERNAL

We see being able to balance both distinct contours and shifting light as a sign of a skilled artist who creates independently of the trends of the time. In Christian Koivumaa we see a potentially timeless artist whose artwork can continue to attract generations of art lovers as it both depicts our time and at the same time manages to capture the eternal.

- CHRISTIAN KOIVUMAA -

"THE CREATIVE PROCESS IS A JOURNEY TO PLACES, MOODS AND MEMORIES."

A SPECIAL PLACE IN THE HEART

THE MYSTICAL NORTHERN LIGHTS

The spectacular and mysterious northern lights are a recurring motif in Koivumaa's art. The Northern Lights have an incredibly special place in his heart as they remind Christian Koivumaa of his childhood roots in the magical natural landscape of northern Tornedalen. In the sky we reflect ourselves and in the motifs, we see people looking up in deep wonder at the play of the northern lights under the vault of stars. Welcome to Christian Koivumaa's magical watercolor world.

STEADY COMPANION

SHARING NAME WITH THE BIRCHES

The birch is something that Koivumaa returns to in his motifs. The white trunks whispering about spring and a steady companion of the beautiful winter. The name "Koivumaa" can be translated in Finnish as "birchland" and what could be a more fitting name for an artist who paints the beauty of birches with such skill and care?

CREATION IN DEEP PRESENCE

BACKGROUND AS AN ELITE ATHLETE

Watercolor is a difficult technique that requires deep concentration and presence of the artist. As a watercolor painter, you often compete against time, which is something Christian Koivumaa knows well as a former elite athlete in karate. He competed at the highest level in the national team and is at home in the mental focus and patience required to master his art. With the same discipline and passion, he now tackles his atmospheric painting.

RARE ARTISTIC SHARPNESS

RECOGNIZED TALENT IN THE WATERCOLOR WORLD

Christian Koivumaa is already a well-known name in the watercolor world and the development promises an even more brilliant future. His technical skills combined with beautiful and narrative nature romantic motifs invite a rare artistic beauty and sharpness. Don't miss the chance to experience the exhibition "Nordic Light" at Galleri Melefors in December.
