A PERFECT ALCHEMICAL BALANCE

LOTHAR VIGELANDZOON

Lothar Vigelandzoon is a humble artist who does not like to make noise. He works devotedly in his studio and workshop where there is freedom to create a world as he wishes it to be. In the hyperrealistic fruits, we can discern influences from surrealism and dream symbolism. It is no coincidence that Lothar chose fruits as his main expression. There is room for beauty, enjoyment, and peace. In classic dream symbolism, fruits correspond to positive values such as desire, well-being, happiness and not least: love.

It is clear that Lothar loves what he does; here is an artist who lives to create. Transforming bronze into large, captivating fruits that both deceive the eye and tickle the imagination is not easy. There is a lot of energy behind Lothar Vigelandzoon's artwork, both in the calm of the studio and next to ovens boiling with incredible heat. A heat of over a thousand degrees is required to tame the material.

And precisely in this lies Lothar's skill as an artist. To seemingly make the creative process appear simple, and at the same time make the hard works of art appear soft. It is a beautiful paradox, that with such a hard process and such hard material finally create works that appear so soft. Lothar Vigelandzoon's alchemical work is craftsmanship of the highest order and results in inviting scenes radiant with hospitality, beauty, and abundance. All this in perfect balance between hard and soft, big, and small, illusion and reality - a balance that creates space for dreams, beauty, and wonder.

Come and experience the magical sculptures with your own eyes during the opening with the artist himself on site! As his gallerist in Scandinavia, we now have the honor of inviting you to an exclusive solo exhibition that you just don't want to miss.

Get to know the internationally recognized artist

LOTHAR VIGELANDZOON

Lothar Vigelandzoon was born in Paramaribo, Suriname, and lived in the Netherlands from 1966 to 2000. Since then, he lives and works in Vence, France, and exhibits in Europe, the USA and Singapore.

In his artistry, Lothar transforms small everyday objects into great miracles where the cold solidity of bronze radiates warmth. The surreal combination of dream and reality entices us to touch the surface, to reassure ourselves of reality. Lothar's hyper-realistic work playfully invites us to take a bite even though we know the fruit is not real.

YOUR GUIDE TO LOTHAR'S ARTISTRY

Those who have been lucky enough to get close to Lothar's creativity know that there is demanding work and a lot of sweat behind the enchanting works of art. He creates unique bronze sculptures using the ancient method "lost wax" or "cire perdue", a method that has been used for over 6,000 years. By remaining faithful to these traditions, Lothar connects to the wings of history in his contemporary artworks.

ANCIENT CRAFTSMANSHIP

In his artist studio, Lothar works with ideas, sketches, and drawings, which he transforms into a three-dimensional model in wax or clay. The model is traditionally called a "maquette". With this as a basis, a heat-resistant mold is then produced which is filled with bronze, liquid at 1200 degrees heat. The mold is removed, the cooled sculpture is sandblasted, and irregularities are removed from the surface. A smooth and glossy surface is required as a basis for the beautiful and high-quality patina.

A CONTEMPORARY ALCHEMIST

Lothar's artistry is reminiscent of a modern alchemist in his play with the material. With his touch, he transforms bronze into visibly edible fruit with a perfectly accomplished balance of shape and color. Skillfully, Lothar leaves just enough for the viewer's imagination to paint a wonderful world of dreams, beauty, and calm. A world of augmented or heightened reality. He makes everything seem easy, which is part of the magic that is Lothar Vigelandzoon.

DEPTH THROUGH MANY LAYERS

Special artistic experience and craftsmanship are required to apply paint to bronze. The patina is created with a careful and demanding process where the surface of the sculpture is burned and treated with acid solutions to achieve the desired shade and texture. Like a classic oil painter, Lothar works in layers upon layers to bring out depth and different shades. This creates the deep and special shade of color that Lothar is looking for, something that has become his signature as an artist. For Lothar, this is the key that completes the works. The sculpture is then mounted on a highly polished base to ensure they are perfectly balanced and presented to maximum effect.

AN ILLUSION OF ELEVATED REALITY

Lothar Vigelandzoon's alchemical work is craftsmanship at its highest level and results in inviting scenes that radiate generosity, hospitality, and abundance. His art is at a perfect point of balance between hard and soft, big, and small, illusion and reality - a balance that creates space for dreams, beauty, and wonder.

The oversized fruits make us stop, notice, and appreciate reality even more. The cherries and fruits can, with their mere presence, give you a breather in everyday life. The sight of them affects and draws in the viewer. Our subconscious believes that the fruits are real and entices us to want to touch them and take a bite.
