Åsa Eriksson (f. 1962) låter sina bilder växa fram med hjälp av färger, fantasi och en inre längtan efter samhörighet med naturen och dess kraft i ljus och energi. Stilen minner om den tidiga impressionismens mästare men uttrycket är eget och expressionistiskt med gestaltningen från Åsas egna inre landskap. Genom hennes måleri bjuds betraktaren in till sina egna tolkningar och speglingar av minnen. En rofylld skogsglänta med ljus som försiktigt silar ner genom lövverket. En brygga över stilla blanka vatten i gryningens varma solstrålar. Åsa bjuder in till en tidlös känsla likt minnet från en dröm.

Åsa Eriksson was born outside Umeå, her childhood was marked by nature and its changes. The heavy forests, rivers, ponds, blooming meadows and the changing of the seasons. In nature, she created her own enchanting worlds and adventures. The magic and the experiences are still there, even after 25 years as an artist. Åsa Eriksson paints nature and places she wants to step into, experience and stay in.
The mystery in Åsa Eriksson's landscape creates an opportunity for the viewer's imagination to take inspiration and travel freely. The strong recognition without exactness gives us the freedom for our own interpretation of her visual world. Åsa paints places she herself longs for, wants to be in and at the same time it attracts our senses to be drawn into the motifs.

EXPRESSIVE IMPRESSIONISM
GENUINE UNBRIDLED JOY OF CREATION
From the white canvas, Åsa Eriksson draws out the motifs through layer upon layer of oil paint, scrapers and brushes. Sometimes it's as much about removing as adding. Often she starts with the canvas on the floor, twisting and turning before a harmonious landscape begins to emerge. Then the subject gets to rest before it ends up on an easel for finishing. Åsa Eriksson's style reminds us of the early leaders of Impressionism. But while the old masters had their basis in naturalism and plein air painting, capturing the external impression and reality of nature in an authentic way with light and color reproduction, Åsa's motifs come from within. She paints her inner landscapes in an expressionistic expression that is colored by her memories and feelings in combination with raw creative desire.
