Description

Stefan Kavsjös måleri skildrar med varsam hand det föränderliga kustlandskapets skiftningar från ett tillstånd till ett annat i väder och vind. Ett plötsligt regn, dimman när solljuset spricker igenom, solens upp- och nedgång och det magiska ljus som uppstår just i brytpunkten. I Stefans målningar påminns vi om naturens okontrollerbara makter. Vi blir den lilla åskådaren på marken, spejandes upp i skyn för att försöka observera och reagera. Det är förtrollande vackert men samtidigt fullt av en nyckfullhet som manar till reflektion och eftertanke.

Efter utbildning på Domen konstskola, KV, samt GU debuterade Stefan Kavsjö som 23-åring med en uppmärksammad separatutställning på galleri Fenix i Göteborg och han deltog sedan under kort tid i flera samlingsutställningar. Stefan Kavsjö har nu efter en lång paus återupptagit skapandet i klassiskt skiktmåleri, med många tunna lager oljelasyrer, och starka kontraster i färg och penselföring för att fånga djupet och rörelsen i bilden.

STEFAN KAVSJÖ

In Kullavik just south of Gothenburg, Stefan Kavsjö lives and works in his studio. Here next to the sea, the special light is a constant companion, whether it's a late summer evening or a midwinter day. The pursuit of the clouds across the sky and the ever-changing light is for Stefan the absolute strongest source of inspiration. After an early education at art school in Gothenburg, Stefan Kavsjö already had several successful exhibitions as a 23-year-old. But life took a different turn, and he took a long break from painting, although creation has always followed Stefan in one form or another. Since a couple of years ago, he and the painting studio have been reunited with new energy. The living interior and exterior expanses carry an unimaginable source of inspiration that Stefan Kavsjö brings with him in the brushstrokes and the contrasting landscapes.

Stefan Kavsjö paints landscapes in the moment of change. A kind of abstract impressionism that is not directly descriptive but concrete enough to experience the feeling of a natural landscape with its enigmatic shifts.

MASSIVE CLOUDS & BEAUTIFUL LIGHT

SUBCONSCIOUS PROCESSES

Stefan often wanders in the powerful landscape next to his home on the west coast of Sweden. The mighty clouds and beautiful changes of light carefully and subconsciously find their way into the studio and into the brushstrokes. He doesn't choose the subjects - they come to him. It happens that Stefan passes a place and suddenly recognizes it from one of his paintings.

“Once the painting is finished, I almost forget how I created it. Just like the landscape outside has changed, so too is the landscape inside. The moment has passed and somehow turned into a picture. There is no rational explanation. Even if I start from a sketch or a memory, I don't stand and think while I paint, but have to follow the flow and the right feeling to capture the mood of the moment."

CLASSIC LAYER PAINTING

DEPTH, LIGHT & HUES

Stefan works mainly in oil and masters an unusual older technique called layer painting. Layer upon layer of thin oil glazes, often up to ten layers, create a visible depth and seductive light changes. When the light breaks through the layers of paint and oil, the effect is experienced as three-dimensional.

"I have to capture the drive and rhythm of the composition already in the first sketch. In a sense, therefore, it is a very strictly schooled process that I deal with.
