Frequently Asked Questions
John Bauer - Christmas Eve
John Albert Bauer (1882-1918) was a Swedish artist and illustrator. He became famous for his illustrations for the fairy tales in "Among Elves and Trolls" in the early 20th century. Early in his career, Bauer made a number of trips to Paris, but also to Lapland, Germany and Italy, which forever influenced his art. In 1907, he began illustrating for “Bland tomtar och troll” and was quickly considered one of the country’s foremost fairy tale illustrators. John Bauer painted mostly in watercolors, but also in oil and frescoes. His illustrations have had a profound impact on Swedish folklore and fairy tale telling. An influence that is tangible and constantly relevant over 100 years after his death. He was only 36 years old, but despite this, he managed to shape the original image of the Swedish folk tales.
John Bauer's original lithographs in the suite "Troll" are some of the most famous and beloved works of art in Swedish history. They are inspired by Nordic mythology and folklore, where Swedish nature is animated and appears as a mysterious primordial force, where trolls and other fairy tale characters appear. The suite “Troll” bears traces of the artist’s contemporaries in the form of the tangible influences of Japonism and the decorative Northern European Art Nouveau style.
We are primarily looking for a collector who wants to take the unique opportunity to acquire the complete suite with original tapes and texts attached. We are taking applications for the entire suite or individual works until on 24/11.
Technique: Lithograph, number 1 from the "Troll" suite. Signed "B" in the print.
Size: 32 x 27 cm incl. frame (14 x 10 cm excl. frame)

Johan Melefors, born 1971, founder and CEO of Galleri Melefors grew up in a family that is the third generation in the auction and antique industry. Already while growing up, Johan developed an interest in art and since the early 1990s has collected and traded in classic, modern and contemporary konst.Galleri Melefors in Linköping, he started in 2013 when he moved home from Stockholm to his hometown of Linköping, which he then thought lacked an art shop and a gallery with a wide range of established collector's art and a well-thought-out and future-interesting contemporary catalog to view.
