The art style pop art was founded in the 1950s in England. It was based on the popular cultural media of films, music and advertising to create art. The mass-produced type of imagery used there was often mixed with humor and was introduced into fine culture through working methods such as mixing objects and symbols from different contexts in different working techniques.
