Description

Imagine seeing the world through the eyes of one newly struck by love. Feel how it makes you calm and safe. A romantic wonder at the beauty of everything.

La vie en rose is the collective name for a series of glass artworks by Emilia Linderholm in four different sizes that are inspired by women in classic fairy tales, balls and opera.

Emilia Linderholm invites you to dream of romance, beautiful expanses and a festive everyday life through her colorful artwork and life. The women in the works depict all the emotions of life in vibrant colors and remind us of goddesses who radiate both strength and vulnerability. The play of light in the glass dresses reflects the passion in a lively dance. The cold and the heat in perfect harmony transform sand and glass mass into stories of princesses at the ball among puffy, feminine dresses. A scenographic composition originating in Emilia's own background as an opera singer. The titles of the works are often inspired by poems and lyrics. Emilia's artistic vision is that the combination of the work and the title can speak to you as a viewer, exactly where you are in life.

"TO BE COMPLETELY IN THE PRESENT MOMENT, THE JOY, THE LAUGHTER AND THE LUST"

Emilia says: "It is with great joy that I participate in Galleri Melefor's 10th anniversary with a brand new collection of paintings that have developed over a long and fruitful period of inspired work."

The anniversary collection is called "Joie de vivre!" which is an expression in French and roughly means "lust for life!". Lust for life I feel is especially important right now - to actively search for it in everyday life. Those times when we are completely in the moment, the joy, the laughter and the lust!"

"TO ME, COLOR IS AS IMPORTANT AS THE AIR I BREATHE"

"Color gives me energy, comfort and joy. As always, color has had to play a significant role in my creation, even in these works. I want my painting to evoke both joy, inspiration and also a streak of reflection."

A LONG-TERM COOPERATION

"In 2013, a gallerist called me who had seen a work at my mother Lena's house. He liked the painting very much and asked if we could meet and possibly start a collaboration. He had just started a gallery called Galleri Melefors. I, who had just began to focus entirely on art was happy and after a first meeting overwhelmed by the enthusiasm and sense of professionalism that permeated the newly started gallery, I said YES!"

LAYER ON LAYER

Emilia starts with charcoal to outline the contours. Then she builds up the painting with many layers of paint. First in acrylic and finally with oil.

A COLOR HAZE

The different layers of colors create a haze that covers the white canvas and hides the sharp edges. Emilia often enhances the play of colors by accenting with chalk.

"DON'T FORGET THE EDGE!"

Emilia always finishes by painting the border around the canvas. The frame should not hide the edge, but it should be visible. Otherwise, the women remain trapped in the scene.

THE BREAKTHROUGH

"AFTER THE FIRST EXHIBITION WITH MOM I WAS STUCK."

The breakthrough for Emilia's painting came in her 20s. Mamma Lena had an exhibition and Emilia exhibited some works she made in Skagen style and received a lot of appreciation. She was then completely set on an opera career but continued with painting on the side.

The shift came a few years later in New York when she realized that "There are lots of talented opera singers who can portray a perfect Carmen. But only one who can shape and create with my expression in painting and form.” Emilia felt a different freedom in painting than in music.

WITH A BACKGROUND IN THE OPERA

EMILIA'S JOURNEY BEGAN WITH A NEW NEIGHBOR

Emilia grew up in a family of artists in Vaxholm. Mamma Lena is one of Sweden's most famous female artists. Father Gösta is a popular singer, poet and musician.

One day the opera director Thomas Jahnke moved into a neighboring house. He and his friends sang and played the piano in the garden. Emilia felt that this is where she belongs. At the age of 11, she saw Madame Butterfly and was completely taken by the strong voices. Thomas gave her summer jobs selling tickets and being an extra and she fell in love with the opera environment.

The opera's rigid structures gave Emilia the opportunity to develop her own style compared to her parents' more bohemian tradition.
