Severin Nilson (1846-1918), was born in Asige in Halland, he was a painter, draftsman and photographer. After his academy studies, he mainly painted portraits, then his motifs were landscapes and history and genre paintings, often depicting children and adults performing various tasks. He was interested in the development of photography and was one of the first Swedish documentary photographers with an imprint in the realist tradition. Inspired by Artur Hazelius, he made photographic studies of folk life.
