Wilhelm von Gegerfelt (1844 - 1920) as the son of city architect Victor von Gegerfelt and Hanna Damm. He began his artistic career by becoming an apprentice painter in Copenhagen during the years 1861-63. In the late 1870s he had close contact with Carl-Fredrik Hill and certain influences of the latter's expressive plein air painting can be reflected in the harsh landscape depictions from Torekov and Halland's Väderö. Gegerfelt is primarily associated with his atmospheric depictions of Venice and its quays, but he has also made coastal depictions from Skagen, Brittany, etc. Gegerfelt's production is extensive and he was already a sought-after artist in his time. An interesting detail is that for a certain time he was a teacher for Prince Eugen.
