Gustaf Cederström (1845-1933) Studies in Stockholm, Düsseldorf and Paris led to the celebrated debut as a history painter with the funeral of Charles XII, one of Sweden's most famous paintings. He became the painter of the Carolingian era in Swedish history, often with anecdotal elements of a tragic nature and with a correctness in the rendering of details. The restrained color scale underlines the harshness of the choice of motif.
Represented at the National Museum and Waldemarsudde in Stockholm as well as at the museums in Gothenburg, Malmö, Lund and Uppsala.
