In this exquisite work of art, Dalí illustrates the dramatic moment in the Garden of Eden. Adam and Eve, two classical figures in the Greek and Roman style, were the first man and woman to form part of the biblical creation story. Adam raises his hand in hesitation as Eve invites him to eat the apple from the tree of knowledge. The serpent in the work appears in a surrealistic way, both alluding to evil and showing the symbol of human love, the heart. Dalí studied theology and had an ambiguous relationship with Catholicism throughout his life. Dalí's mother was a strict Catholic and his father was an atheist. Despite much exploration, Dalí never abandoned his childhood faith. The work of art is an exquisite depiction of one of the most classic narrative myths in world history.
