Andy Warhol
Andy Warhol was actually named Andrew Warhola. He was born in 1928 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA, and died in 1987 in New York. In the mid-1940s he studied design at the Carnegie Institute of Technology in Pittsburgh and after graduating he moved to New York. Warhol became an important innovator in art in the mid-1960s and is a leading figure in what is usually called pop art. Later, Warhol increasingly devoted himself to commissioned portraits.
