Description

Christian Koivumaa is a watercolor artist with roots in Tornedalen and now active in Katrineholm in Södermanland. With a sure hand, he depicts beautiful light and fairy-tale moods in his watercolor paintings, often with the different playing guises of the peculiar Nordic light as a common thread. We viewers are invited to wander for a while in wonder among the city's warming streets and under the play of lights of the northern lights over the northern mountains. In Christian Koivumaa, we see a potentially timeless artist who, with both feeling and technical skill, depicts our contemporary times and at the same time manages to capture the eternal.

Technique: Watercolor on paper
Size: 56 x 76 cm paper dimensions ( approx. 70 x 90 cm including frame)

The work is displayed with a handmade gray wooden frame and reflex-damping and UV-protective Artglass. You can choose to buy the work as a paper only or with the framing through the options here. Contact us if you want other frame options. We have our own framing workshop and are happy to help.

Christian Koivumaa is a master of watercolors. With a steady hand, he manages to depict something very elusive - the play of shadows among the city's warming streets, the mysterious northern lights above the tops of the spruce forests & the breathtaking expanses of the northern mountain ranges. If you look closer, you will find both outstanding details & a mysterious depth, filled with the longing that we all carry within us, which Koivumaa has made an art to capture on the paper. A DIFFICULT TECHNIQUE TO MASTER

Christian Koivumaa is a master in the watercolor medium. The water-based technique is considered capricious and often takes on a life of its own due to its fluid unpredictability. Despite the unwieldy "wet on wet" technique (a particular challenge in watercolor), Koivumaa depicts both light and fairy-tale moods with such precision that the viewer finds himself in awe.

TO BECOME A CHAMPION

FROM ELITE SPORTS TO WATERCOLORS

When he was 12 years old, "Karate Kid" was on TV and Christian started in Haparanda's Karate Club. The aim was high with the goal of winning the World Cup and the Olympics. But nine Swedish Champion titles later, he was injured, and his career came to an end.

A life without karate took a toll. The wife inspired Christian to try new interests. It was then that he found watercolor painting, which quickly grew to become the great passion that now occupies Christian's life.

Watercolor is a difficult technique that requires deep concentration and presence of the artist. As a watercolor painter, you often compete against time, which is something Christian Koivumaa knows well as a former elite athlete in karate. He competed at the highest level in the national team and is at home in the mental focus and patience required to master his art. With the same discipline and passion, he now tackles his atmospheric painting.
