Damien Hirst is a British contemporary artist, born in 1965 in Bristol. He is one of the best-known members of the Young British Artists (YBAs) group that rose to prominence in the 1990s. Hirst is best known for his provocative works that explore themes such as death, religion, science and consumption. One of his most famous works is "The Physical Impossibility of Death in the Mind of Someone Living" – a tiger shark preserved in formaldehyde. He has also created the diamond skull For the Love of God (2007). Hirst's art often evokes strong reactions and has made him one of the world's most talked about and commercially successful artists.
