Lars Jonsson, born 1952 in Stockholm, is an artist, writer and ornithologist with a lifelong passion for birds and their environments. Already at the age of 15 he exhibited at the Natural History Museum, and in the 1970s he gained international recognition for his bird handbooks. He has since exhibited in Sweden, America and Europe, and published 12 books.
In 2002 he was awarded an honorary doctorate by Uppsala University. Jonsson holds a unique position as both an artist and a field guide author, drawing his inspiration from Gotland's birdlife. He works primarily in the field, where he captures impressions directly through his telescope.
