Emilia Linderholm

Emilia Linderholm invites us into a vibrant, yet at the same time quiet and sensual painting. Her artwork often revolves around female figures and much of her inspiration comes from the world of dance and opera. The expressive play of color in her art sets the rhythm and gives a pleasant tone of harmony.

“To be completely in the present, the joy, the laughter and the pleasure”

Emilia Linderholm's painting can often be summed up by the French expression "Joie de vivre!" which roughly means "the lust for life!" Emilia says: "I find the lust for life to be enormously important - and to actively search for it in our everyday lives. Those times when we are completely in the present, the joy, the laughter and the pleasure!"

For Emilia Linderholm, color is as important as the air she breathes. It gives her energy, comfort and joy. Color is a recurring theme in her work, giving the viewer joy and inspiration, but also moods of reflection and contemplation.

Painting and opera - a rewarding combination

Emilia Linderholm grew up in a family of artists in Vaxholm. Her mother, Lena Linderholm, is one of Sweden's most famous female artists. Her father, Gösta Linderholm, was a popular folk singer, poet and musician.

One day, the opera director Thomas Jahnke moved into a neighboring house. He and his friends sang and played the piano in the garden. Emilia felt that this was where she belonged and fell in love with the opera environment. Emilia's breakthrough as a painter came in her 20s. Lena Linderholm had an exhibition, Emilia contributed some works in the Skagen style that were much appreciated. The shift from opera to painting came a few years later in New York with the realization that "There are lots of talented opera singers who can portray a perfect Carmen. But only one who can portray and create with my expression in painting and form."

Emilia's painting is strongly influenced by the performing arts and opera. This gives a distinctive expression and perspective when she lets the women in her subjects act and portray the different roles and emotions of life.

“When the dresses came out of the oven, they hit me right in the heart.”

Emilia has been designing glass art for more than 15 years at various glassworks. Since December 2019, her glass art has been mouth-blown together with glass sculptor and glassmaker Amy Krüger. Emilia also regularly collaborates with glassmaker Micke Johansson. Together, they create, among other things, the prize for the annual Web Service Award.

Through Emilia Linderholm's glass dresses, the feeling in the oil paintings is captured, channeled and manifested in beautifully shimmering glass. The glass dresses are available in four sizes and several colors.

About Gallery Melefors

Johan Melefors, born 1971, founder and CEO of Galleri Melefors, grew up in a family that is the third generation in the auction and antiques industry. Already during his childhood, Johan developed an interest in art and since the early 1990s has collected and traded classic, modern and contemporary art. He started Galleri Melefors in Linköping in 2013 when he moved home from Stockholm to his birthplace of Linköping, which he felt lacked an art store and gallery with a breadth of established collector's art and a well-thought-out and future-oriented contemporary catalog to display.
