Salvador Dali (1904-1989) was one of our greatest modern artists and an icon of surrealism. Dalí's fantastic expressions in paintings, sculptures, films and writings helped to cement the identity of surrealism. Inspired by Freud's psychoanalysis, Einstein's theory of relativity, impressionism and Renaissance painting, Dalí rendered symbolist, fantastic creatures and landscapes. Few artists have had such a peculiar universe as Salvador Dalí, where an imaginative mix of madness executed with technical perfection and precision reigns. His painting "The Persistence of Memory" from 1931 is one of the most famous works of art of all time. Dalí lived as he created - in constant motion, in search of immortality.

In this sculpture, Dalí transforms a grand piano into a surreal dancing object. The traditional wooden legs are replaced with real female legs with heels on their feet and skirts with ruffles and frills. Through the surprising properties, the everyday and inanimate object is transformed into a living being, something that is typical of Dalí's surrealism. The result is a lively surrealist ensemble that both dances and plays out of Dalí's imagination. Adding human qualities to objects and especially music and furniture is typical of Dalí. The The golden female figure gives the sculpture an elegant and graceful dimension. Her ballet posture suggests a classical performance that contrasts with the more swinging music suggested by the flying skirts of the piano legs. Dalí lived in Paris during the Roaring Twenties and was strongly influenced by the flourishing music and dance scene. Dalí returned to the image of a piano in several of his paintings over the years. He also chose the figure of a piano united with a female body as part of his installation Dream of Venus for the 1939 New York World's Fair.
