John Albert Bauer (1882-1918) was a Swedish artist and illustrator. He became famous for his illustrations for the fairy tales in "Bland tomtar och troll" at the beginning of the 20th century. Early in his career, Bauer made a number of trips to Paris, but also to Lapland, Germany and Italy, which would forever mark his art. In 1907, he began illustrating for "Bland tomtar och troll" and was quickly considered one of the country's leading fairy tale illustrators. John Bauer painted mostly watercolors, but also in oil and frescoes. His illustrations have had a profound impact on Swedish folklore and storytelling. An influence that over 100 years after his death is tangible and constantly relevant. He only lived to be 36 years old, but despite this managed to shape the original image of the Swedish folk tales.

John Bauer's original lithographs in the suite "Trolls" are some of the most famous and beloved works of art in Swedish history. They are inspired by Nordic mythology and folklore, where Swedish nature is enlivened and appears as a mysterious primal force, where trolls and other fairy-tale characters appear. The suite "Trolls" bears traces of the artist's contemporaries in the form of the tangible influences of Japonism and the decorative Northern European Art Nouveau style.

Primarily, we are looking for a collector who wants to take the unique chance to acquire the complete suite. In interested, get in touch with us before 24 nov, when the individual works become available.
