Karin Holmström creates artworks consisting mainly of colorful and abstract paintings in acrylic paint. In most of Karin's paintings, animals and people are found as motifs. Karin says that in her creations she explores what it is to be human. "A work should arouse emotions," says Karin. She explains that the motifs are about to dare and have faith in the power of man and she is inspired by the wild animals and a love to preserve them after she was an exchange student in and visited the Kreuger Park in South Africa.
She calls her artistic expression “figurative abstract.” “A work must not be too finished, it must continue with the viewer, like a book you read and create your own images for,” she says. Karin paints in several layers of color, where the colors are worked together with the aim of awakening strong emotions in the viewer.
