The marine painter Per Wilhelm Cedergren (1820–1896) was intimately associated with the marine since childhood. As a nine-year-old, he was enrolled as a ship's boy in the crown's service. His aptitude for drawing was noticed early on and after a few years he got work drawing templates for shipbuilding. When Cedergren was twenty, a folklorist visited his parents' home and noticed a painting on the wall that Cedergren himself had created. This led to him being offered three months of free tuition at the Art Academy's Sunday school.
Cedergren's marine paintings are mostly documentary depictions of ships and boats, especially in the Stockholm environment. He also executed many ship portraits, probably on commission. The royal family bought several of his works, and Charles XV even bought a small farm for him at Drottningholm. Cedergren is represented at the National Museum, the Maritime History Museum and the Nordic Museum.

Johan Melefors, born 1971, founder and CEO of Galleri Melefors grew up in a family that is the third generation in the auction and antique industry.
