1816 is remembered as the year without a summer. The volcano Tambora had spread its ash across the Northern Hemisphere, darkening the sun. Mary had left London with her new lover, traveling through Europe with some friends. Bored by the dark and cold weather, they told each other ghost stories. One evening, Mary suggested a competition to see who could write the best horror story. She drew inspiration from Frankenstein Castle and was fascinated by the idea of recreating life. A story about a scientist and his monster began to take shape. Eighteen months later, *Frankenstein* was published anonymously and is considered the first science fiction novel. The second edition bore Mary Shelley's name. At 26, Mary wrote in her diary, "Why am I doomed to see everyone die before me?" By then, she had lost her mother, sister, three of her children, and her husband. When her husband was cremated, Mary asked for his heart to be cut out. She kept it in a box for the rest of her life.

"Silent Stories" is an art project created by husband and wife Andreas Lundberg and Annie Vesterdahl Lundberg. Andreas is a photographer with a background in advertising, fashion and documentary photography. Annie is a hairdresser, make-up artist and, in the project, also a stylist. Each piece is inspired by a true story or fate. Andreas and Annie have made their own interpretation of these stories and sometimes they have changed the era and place. The creative process is often long and exciting, a constant search for a story that they can fantasize about and turn into a work of art. Hundreds of sketches that are turned and twisted eventually become a photograph. The art project Silent Stories started in 2016. Each work is signed and numbered in a limited edition. The stories that inspired the photographs are attached to the back of the works.
