The Australian painter Todd Hunter (b. 1972 Brisbane) now lives and works in Byron Bay, Australia. Neither the strokes nor the palette of Todd Hunter's paintings are decidedly jagged or harsh, yet they are not smooth. There is a power and "edginess" made possible by very energetic and robust brush strokes.
His studies were in Australia, first at Griffith University in Brisbane Visual Arts in 1992, for which he received several awards. While studying for his BA, he also studied at the Julian Ashton Art School in Sydney in 1990. His artwork is in collections, mainly in Australia, such as ArtBank, Art Gallery of NSW, Griffith University Art Gallery, The Julian Ashton Art School Collection and The QCL Collection in Queensland. The Swiss and Australian embassies in Bangkok also have Hunter's work in their collections.
My studio is never quiet, everything is accompanied by music. It affects my work intimately. Almost all my titles come from lyrics or song titles that have influenced that particular work and the psychological overtones the music creates permeate the works. It changes with each painting. It is autobiographical, reflected in the image, becomes my mixtape, the soundtrack to my life.
